Four strings and the Truth

People ask me why do I
Like to play the Uke
I just think to my self
“Four strings and the truth”,

1st string is the note of “A”
Second string is “E”
“C” if you know what I mean
The fourth string is a “G”.

Chorus 1
Four strings and the truth
Known only by few
Make a joyful noise
Is why I play the Uke.

Might look like a little flea
But that don’t matter much
When singing about my Jesus Christ
And how He lost His blood

It’s not the instrument you play
Uke or big guitar
The thing matters most to him
Is playing from the heart.

Chorus 2
Four strings and the truth
Are you one of the few ?
Make a joyful noise
Is why I play the Uke.

…a play on the phrase that country music is “3 chords and the truth”.

Are you one the few ?.

The Voice

Sun shines on my back,
Blue skies on the track,
One step at a time,
Never a crime,

Rain falls on my head,
Not what the weather girl said,
And then turns into snow,
Which way to go.

Chorus

I have the Voice within
That ends what It begins
I know that I will make it through,

“Let’s go to the other side”
Says the Voice that keeps an eye
Cos the skies are turning blue.
The Voice says I will make it through.

Sometimes life goes wrong,
And so you lose your song,
Grey skies seems to say,
“This is how you’ll stay”,

But then the Voice speaks loud,
Blues skies break the clouds,
Sets free the ball and chain,
Here I go again.

This song is really about the Voice of the Holy Spirit in times of uncertainty. Jesus said in Mark 4:38 “let us go to the other side”. I think this is a profound statement because it is a clear statement of intention by Jesus. If He has birthed us and is the “finisher”, no storm, black clouds, or fierce winds will hinder His finishing work in us !. This is reassuring, and we must constantly reassure ourself with this thought. I am proud of the line: “The Voice that keeps an eye”…juxtaposing the Voice with His guiding eye as per Psalm 32:8.

Heaven and Earth

Love
Came down through
Blood
The way renewed
Now
Heaven is here,

God
Comes like a
Flood
Coming to
Us
Object of love,

Chorus
Only one God
Came from Heaven
Turning curses
Into blessings
What other God sacrifices self ?,
For the objects
Of Affection
Gaining Spirit
And connection
For Heaven and earth now are one.

He
Lived among
Men
New things were
Said
Heaven is here,

Life
Shown in the
One
Not seen be-
Fore
Proven by blood.

Christ; who is a self sacrificing God, has bought Heaven, or His Kingdom into our lives. Heaven is now within. This is radical, like nothing anywhere else. When Jesus came and declared the Kingdom, it was new, life changing and powerful.

“with respect to an administration of the completion of the epochs of time to bring back again to their original state all things in the Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth, in Him”. Ephesians 1:10 (Wuest version)

I love You

I love You
Jesus
I love You
Jesus
I want to sing You
A beautiful love song
Flowing from a heart that longs to worship,

I long for You
Spirit
I long for You
Spirit
For You have made me
Who I am today
So I ask Your Spirit
To move and have Your way,

In me
In me.

What is it about a hillbilly song ?

2KA 2 QSL360w

What is it about a Hillbilly Song ?
That sounds so good to me
What is it about a Hillbilly Song ?
The story’s of life believed
What is it about a Hillbilly Song ?
That touches me within
Can ya please tell me
What is it about a Hillbilly Song ?.

2KA logo0001-360w

When I was a boy of twelve
My Grandpa played to me
Little Roy Lewis on the ol’ banjo
I couldn’t believe my ears
He picked & played that ol’ 5 string
Like I never heard before
& when he sang about my Jesus
He opened that hillbilly door.

I remember my childhood on the farm
My family would sing & play
Between the ukulele’s & steel guitars
They had something to say
They recorded “I met the Master”
And “When God dips His pen”
And preached about the love of Jesus
On Radio 2KA.

Now they call it “country”
Not “Hillbilly” now it seems
They’ve replaced the fiddle & banjo
With tinsel & cellophane dreams
Give me a song sung from the heart
Sung the Hillbilly way
With banjo’s, dobro’s & steel guitars
I wanna hear a hillbilly play !.

A true story song. My family would record gospel songs to play in between talking about the gospel on a half hour radio show called “Happy Harmonies” on radio 2KA during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Singin’ our heads off in Taylor Park again

Singin’ our heads off in Taylor Park again
Singin’ ’bout Jesus as we remember when
How baby Jesus came to be our Saviour
A chance for a new life to begin.

Chorus

“We Three Kings”, ‘n’ “Silent Night”, and “Joy to the World”.
Remind us, we needed Christmas Day
How a Saviour came to us, cos
We couldn’t save ourselves
To give His life, so we could know His grace.

Kids with candles and faces all aglow
Shows that tonight is more than just a show
A new generation who needs a Saviour
A heavenly father’s love they need to know.

Bridge

What I sing about is more than Santa
Jingle Bells or Rudolf and his sleigh
But Jesus Christ who is God’s answer
and how God provided us a way,

Last time
Singin’ our heads off in Taylor Park again !.

Found in the archives (an old back up drive !). A Christmas song written for “Carols in the Park” (Taylor Park, Grenfell NSW) in Australia at Christmas 2007. I was the MC for town Carol’s that year and wrote this for a gap in time between items. I have never recorded this one…it was for a time and place.

Found this in the archives. Wrote this for a house group. I have totally forgotten the tune. I even forgot I composed this…but it was relevant to what God was revealing to that group at the time.

His Love

Verse 1

His love is beautiful
His love immutable
His love is suitable to me
For His kindnesses
Come to my weaknesses
For He is the Love in me.
Continually loving me.

Verse 2

His love is natural
Beyond the dutiful
His love immovable to me
I’m now His righteousness
Flows from His faithfulness
He is the Life in me
The Vine Life transfers to me.

Bridge

His satisfaction
Satisfies me
Nothing more to do
The God of perfection
Grows inside me
Nothing more to prove
Proves the beautiful.

Verse 3

His love is wonderful
His love emotional
His love is musical to me
I found the natural note
That resonates my soul
He is the Life in me
His love is life in me

All things have changed

You can download or listen to the song here. (1.45 mins, 1.6 mb)

Deep down in the middle of my mind
There’s a part I just can’t satisfy
It’s a corner of my mind I can never seem to fill
It’s still there after all that I try
I wonder why

Now all things have changed
All things are new
Jesus came to live in me
And He lives inside
And He fills the empty parts of my mind.

Now I know Him there’s a new way to live
From the new life that’s living inside
No longer feeling there is nothing to give
After all the these tears that I’ve cried
I’m satisfied.

Cos all things have changed….

I’m not who I used to be

You can listen to, or download the song here. (2.2mb. 2.23 mins)

You exchanged my life for your own
Grace came down to me from Your throne,
Now Your life has changed me from within
The Glories of Your goodness make me sing,

Holy, Righteous, Beloved Son of God,
Gracious, Jesus, showed us Father’s Love,
Now You’ve given us Your Glory
Your Truth has now set me free
I’m not who I used to be
No I’m not who I used to be.
