Glasgow and Edinburgh

Glasgow and Edinburgh
The Merchant City and the Royal Mile
Two different personalities
But both can make you smile.

One from the ground up
The other from the top down
One, the Scottish brains
The other, the Scottish crown.

Glasgow, the workings man’s gaff
Edinburgh moors the Brittania
While Glasgow sweats with labour
Edinburgh has the royal memorabilia.

Two great cities
With totally different feel
Both with strengths and weakness
If you pull back the orange peel.

What you see is what you get
“Take us or leave us” says Glasgow
Edinburgh invites to world to play
Intellectual and political tango.

In either city there’s a joke
At the expense of every tourist
With bagpipes and kilts ubiquitous
For locals is continually humorous.

So that’s Glasgow and Edinburgh
The Merchant City and the Royal Mile
Two different personalities
But both can make you smile.

Note : Gaff is Scottish slang for “your place”.
Queen Elizabeth’s ship “Brittania” is moored in Edinburgh Harbour
