Hawaiian shirts

Hawaii

Ukulele’s and Hawaiian shirts
Do something the same,
Whenever you think of them
They bring a smile to your face.

The colours of an Hawaiian shirt
Makes you look so sunny,
It gives you a legitimate excuse
To act and look so funny.

They increase the humour level
And gives some smiling powers,
The sunsets, the palm trees
The canoes and poxy flowers.

Some even laugh so hard
They may cough and snort,
When you look below the shirt
And see the matching shorts.

You’ll never see a Hawaiian shirt
Where the weather is dull and gray,
You’ll never see Jezza and Nigel
Wear “boring” on Boxing Day.

Anyone can wear one
Whether from Sydney or Barcelona,
You’ll even raise a laugh
When you part and say “Aloha”.

The Tree

The tree’s roots are deep in Earth
Yet reaches to the sky,
The tree becomes Jacob’s ladder
Where a man was crucified.

Ascending and descending
Between God’s heart and mine,
A busy Jacob’s ladder
Where a man was crucified.

This tree has many branches
Connected to it’s vine,
Life comes from Jacob’s ladder
Where a man was crucified.

The tree was made of wood
On which hung the Divine,
The tree became Jacob’s ladder
Where a man was crucified.

So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. (Genesis 28:11, 12 NKJV)

And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” (John 1:51 NKJV)

The Smile

smile

The smile says many things
About the face it owns,
It’s connected to the eyes
It’s connected to the soul.

Innocence portrayed
Generosity displayed
Integrity within
Comforts like a violin.

Hope instead of doubt
Humble instead of proud
Hoping for the best
That she’ll pass the test.

The smile is like a star
It’s shine touches the heart
Always there for you
Admirers join the queue.

My daughter Stacey’s smile
Makes a hard heart an admirer
Of the joy in faith and living
And giving not receiving.

Her smile say many things
About the face it owns,
It’s connected to her eyes
It’s connected to her soul.

Christmas skating at George Square

It’s time to breath some Glasgow air
While Christmas skating at George Square
Glasgow lights up like a Christmas tree
The lights and music set the scene.

The coloured lights means a busy camera
The Glasgow rain is not a dampener
For the warmth within as we share our time
Is as warm as Carol’s heated mulled wine.

It’s time to put on our light blue skates
Three if us sharing laughs like ol’ mates
We hit the ice and we start to slide
And make some memories to last all time.

The outdoor skating puts a smile of our face
As we thank God we are in this place
Then off to share a burger and drink
As we sit and laugh and share and think.

Then off to buy Stacey some babushka dolls
Enjoying the markets as we take a stroll
Taking in lights and the Glasgow sites
We all agree that this is one great night.

We take a walk through Glasgow central
Enjoying the rain as it falls so gentle
With gloves and scarves and nip on the nose
We walk to Queen street and take the train home.

The eagle

There once was an eagle in a nest
Immature and young who thought he knew best
And there were many things he didn’t know
Except some doubts and highs and lows.

Sick of the pressure he tried to fly
Didn’t know what to do or even why
But he knew within that this was his lot
So he jumped out the nest to give it a shot.

He jumped out the nest only to fall
Though in the air hit a mental wall
“I’ll never make it because I’m a zero
Everyone else seems to be the hero”.

Just as the eagle was to hit the ground
Two great big wings came and wrapped around
And bought him back to his comfort nest
To win some time and have a rest.

Time to recover and wonder why
Feeling insecure while he had a good cry
But he realized he won’t stay long in the nest
So it was time again to stick out his chest.

So he tried again and down he went
But those two big wings were heaven sent
By now his pride was running low
Then he realized he just can fly alone.

He saw the things in his life flash by
The failures the bruises the pain inside
So he looked to the eagle with the two big wings
To try the wisdom and life it brings.

He realized he needed was not the thing
That was born intrinsic from deep within
But what came derived from the wings without
That comes by faith and not by doubt.

Humility and faith seemed to open the door
For the eagle to rise and fly and soar
Things were different so off he went
He left the nest as he was meant.

Through the storms he could strongly fly
With the wisdom and life the big eagle supplied
As a caterpillar turns into a butterfly
He’s amazed at how he has changed inside.

There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yes, four which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the air…(Proverbs 30:18, 19 NKJV)

If only

If only eyes would see.
If only ears would hear
If only hearts would receive
If only spirits would believe.

The things that God has said
The things that God has prepared
The things that God has done
The things won by the Son.

Lives would be forever healed
Lives would be forever whole
Lives would never be the same
Lives would be forever changed.

Will you open your eyes ?
Will you open your ears ?
Will you open open your heart ?
Will your spirit do its part ?.

Who ?

Who came for you ?
Who died for you ?
Who left heaven to find you ?.
Who sacrificed Himself for you ?

Confucius ?
Plato ?
Krishna ?
Buddha ?.

Hollywood ?
Microsoft ?
Apple ?
Nashville ?.

Materialism ?
Atheism ?
Feminism ?
Patriotism ?.

Education ?
Actualization ?
Eroticisation ?
Evolution ?.

Who came for you ?
Who died for you ?
Who left heaven to find you ?
Who sacrificed Himself for you ?

I am not the source

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure [the reflection of the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ] in earthenware containers, in order that the super- excellence of the power might be from God as a source and not from us. (Wuest)

The power of God is His power that changes me from the inside out.

It’s not about making me stronger,
But allowing His strength to be in me.

It’s not about being more comfortable,
But allowing His comfort to be in me.

It’s not about producing more faith,
But living out of His faith in me.

It’s not about creating emotional balance
But living out of the peace He has given me.

My ears don’t create sound,
That would drive me crazy.

My eyes don’t produce sight,
I would never be able to rest.

I am not the source…
Never will be.

He is the only source…
Always will be.

2 Corinthians 1:9 But we ourselves have had the answer of death in ourselves and at this time still have that experience, in order that we should NOT BE TRUSTING IN OURSELVES BUT IN GOD who raises the dead; [emphasis mine]

The Christ in me

When I am weak
You are my strength,
When I need power
You are my grace.

When I feel fear
You are my peace,
When I feel lack
You’re all I need.

When needing direction
You are my guide,
When feeling guilt
You made me right.

When needing fruit
You are the vine,
I’m just a branch
Who needs to abide.

When in bondage
You are my deliverer,
When feeling alone
You are my gatherer.

When I’m thirsty
You are my refreshment,
When wanting to fit
You give me placement.

When carrying a load
You are my burden bearer,
When I need redemption
You are my Saviour.

When I need love
You are my lover,
When feeling an orphan
You are my Father.

When I need adjustment
You are my sanctifier,
When I lack
You are my provider.

When I am sick
You are my healer,
When I need a friend
You are my brother.

When Worn out
You are my rest,
When I need ministry
You are my priest.

You are everything
I am not,
I love my weakness
Because you are God.

Colossians 1:26-28 the mystery which has been kept hidden from the ages and from the generations, but now was made known to His saints, to whom God desired to make known IN AN EXPERIENTIAL WAY what is the wealth of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY, whom we are constantly announcing, admonishing every man and instructing every man in every wisdom in order that we may present every man spiritually mature in Christ Jesus, (Wuest)

Note: “hope of glory” to me can mean “a revelation of the Christ in me in an experiential way, is the only hope of getting His glories out of me”
