Rush hour in Manchester

Trying to get out of Manchester
To get back on the M6
During the fun called “rush hour”
Requires all your tools and tricks.

I start on the M61
Four lanes of hotbed frustration
Which lane am I supposed to be in ?
Oh yes, the one with least congestion.

But that just causes problems
Because you have stay in the right lane
Else you end up in Wigan
No good if you want to stay sane.

The truck on my left cuts in
And tries to go faster than me
Do I slow down or accelerate
But there’s a fool on the right side of me.

I’m feeling sandwiched in
But then they all slow right down
Then a car cuts in ahead
Wearing the idiots crown.

I listen to the BBC Merseyside
They say traffic is all just fine
I’d hate to see a traffic jam
I’m going gray in my prime !.

The sat nav says 200 miles to go
I see the sign to Leeds
But can’t see the white line
The rain makes it hard to see.

After I tough it out
I finally hit the M6
Finally the road back to Scotland
Leaves behind all my tools and tricks.

So if you are ever in Manchester
The city of culture and sport
Where both means the motor ways
Will ensure that you never are bored.

Who do I allow to define me ?

Who do I allow to define me ?
Where do I get my fill ?.
For if Christ doesn’t define me
Someone else will.

In allowing others to define me
They will only go in for the kill
So of Christ doesn’t define me
Someone else will.

The world, the flesh and the devil
Give a deadly identity pill
So if Christ doesn’t define me
Someone else will.

Through a mundane metronome life
That seems so run of the mill
I allow Christ to define me
Else someone else will.

When people criticize me
And I’m pushing life uphill
I run to what defines me
Else someone else will.

Though I feel I’m in the doldrums
I keep focus on Christ until
He labels and defines me
Else someone else will.

If Adam were here today

If Adam were here today
I know what he would say
“Why open the lying door
I’ve seen it all before”.

The same lies are shoulder tapping
Just in a modern wrapping
Shoveling deceptive stuff
Saying “you’re not enough”.

“You need to be something more
Than what God has in store
Don’t worry about the job
To get what you’ve already got”.

Fill the gap and get a sweat
It takes work for you to get
What you need to achieve
Not God’s gifts you can receive.

He would say “can’t you see
God’s provision is all you need
Don’t repeat my silly mistake
It’s your life that is at stake”.

The lie – perpetrated in the garden by a lying serpent, that you are not enough with God, and you need to step into the breach by “being all you can be”.

who exchanged the truth of God for THE LIE, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (Romans 1:25 NKJV) (emphasis mine)

And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe THE LIE, (II Thessalonians 2:11 NKJV) (emphasis mine)

Not “a” lie, but “the” lie…

Something that concerns me greatly
Is the mixture within in the church,
Things added on the Word of God
Causing the sheep to flirt,
With things that are not from Heaven
But started in the mind of man,
Sowing what is an impure seed
Mixing good seed with the bad.

Instead of prayer for revelation
And the mind and will of Christ,
There’s prosperity prayers that seem so vain
So that the sheep are enticed,
To keep attendance and support
They even prophecy false hope
But no one keeps them accountable
What is outside God’s scope.

Then there’s the gospel of Israel
In place of the Gospel of Christ,
Don’t call me anti Semitic
But I do want to preach His life,
Then there’s dreams of grandure
Promising the strange and the weird
Universalism without a hell
Falsely reducing some fears.

Something that concerns me greatly
Is the mixture within in the church,
Things added on the Word of God
Causing the sheep to flirt,
With things that are not from Heaven
But started in the mind of man,
Sowing what is an impure seed
Mixing good seed with the bad.

Enter in

They did not enter in due to unbelief
This was the source of their hooligan grief.

It was not because of the giants external
They missed out due to the giants internal.

It’s not water outside the boat
But the water inside that stops it to float.

We should fear that we come short
And be amiss of Kingdom reward.

Unbelief is the biggest sin
Just believe and enter in.

“I won’t lift my hands in worship”…just enter in
“I won’t worry about speaking in tongues”…enter in
“I won’t use my gifts and talents”…enter in
“I won’t live like a son”…enter in
“I won’t be lead by the Spirit”…enter in
“I won’t take my rights and privileges as a son of God”…enter in
“I won’t enter into the things of God”…enter in

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. (Hebrews 3:19 NKJV)

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. (Hebrews 4:1 NKJV)

A poem about nothing

This is a poem about nothing
Voting off the person with less votes
Through to next week you’re a something
Full of large smiles and gloats.

If you miss out you’re a nothing
You’re value not as high as the others
Only if you achieve you’re a something
Only then can you be one of the brothers.

This is a poem about nothing
Where your value is according to your use
Only value comes from “the something”
No value for the one’s who lose.

See, I am the one who was a nothing
I never made the winner’s scene
But I know that I am a something
Because God, not the world defines me.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn, in the Gulag Archipelago, recorded that Stalin worked out that if a prisoner could be kept alive for a minimum of three months, the output of his labour (normally in appalling conditions) was economically worth the cost of feeding and keeping him in the prison camps. If he died after that time, the State was ahead economically….

Such brutal callousness should horrify us! Reductionism – the devaluing of a person’s life to an economic / bottom-line statistic – was the stuff of raw, theoretical communism – we would never see our way of life and values degenerate like that! Would we???? Not even creeping in????

Ring 0800 555 555 to vote me off if you do not like me, the way I sing, the way I look, the way I dance and how I think.

Sydney Airport in 2011

Sydney airport in twenty eleven
On route to help Scots go to heaven
My son Jeremy at six foot two
Cricketer Athlete and rugby man too
Big tough man with sense of humour
Loves whats real and hates wrong rumour
Standing there to wave goodbye
Stares at me and starts to cry
“I love you” is exchanged in tears
“Love you Dad” final words to me
Qantas Flight 1 above Sydney Harbour
Just makes my tears and pain go harder

I’ll never forget Sydney twenty eleven
And I know I’ll see Jeremy smile in heaven.

Believing the right thing

It’s not enough to say “only believe”
For you may be slightly deceived,
Into thinking that it doesn’t matter
In what you believe and all that banter.

For surely you must believe the right thing
And not just believe any old thing,
One big reason you lose your song
Is because what you believe is wrong.

The children of Israel certainly believed
But grace did not their fears relieve,
For the Giants that beat them were not external
But the giant of unbelief internal.

They believed their idols more than God
Misplaced faith bought their desert plod,
Faith in faith and faith in self
On Earth you live a life of hell.

Wisdom screams “faith in Christ”
That is where you will find the Life,
So let the Spirit give you His endorsement
That what you believe is quite important.

The wilderness

God does something many misunderstand
Allowing you to a place waterless,
He allows your life to wander around
To a place they call “the wilderness”.

We have to go through a stripping process
Even though it feels like hell,
He even allows a monstrous failure
So our faith is not in ourself.

It’s a hard tough and dusty road
Where you walk and choke your own dust,
But that’s where you come to the end of self
And find the truth you can trust.

For that is the place where you meet God
Where He was waiting for you,
And realize that it’s faith toward God
Where life is found by the few.

“And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds. (Acts 7:22 NKJV)

40 years later after being in the desert…

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11 NKJV)

Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, (II Corinthians 1:9 NKJV)

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5 NKJV)

Faith towards God

Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, (Hebrews 6:1 NKJV)

It’s not about faith in self
It’s not about faith in flesh
It’s not about faith in me
It’s about faith towards God.

It’s not about faith in faith
It’s not about motivation
It’s not about being your best
It’s about faith towards God.

It’s about faith toward God’s Word
It’s about faith toward God’s nature
Else we become our own Saviour
It’s about faith towards God.
