Nostalgia is not what it used to be

Nostalgia is not what it used to be
It doesn’t make me high any more
The good ol’ days weren’t really the good ol’ days
Too many lies in memory stored.

Was life really better way back then
Before push buttons were invented ?.
When you actually washed the dishes by hand
Before coffee was vanilla scented ?.

When air conditioning meant “open the windows”
And sweaters were heaped on in layers
When the Russians were ready to blow us up
Before a pending Ice age, said the sooth sayers.

You never hugged a person & said “I love you”
Communication was very superficial
Everything new was a great big threat
Anything new would not be beneficial.

Now that I’m older I’ve got to say
That life is much easier now
Medicine, knowledge, comforts, & communication
Are far better today somehow.

But the best thing of all is that I’m secure
I know who I am therefore, I am free
I’m no longer a product of my past
Yes, nostalgia is not what it used to be.
